Macao game rules

Do you know those moments when during the house party it is not clear what else to do, someone starts to get bored, guests leave and the mood is moderately good? This is the perfect time for a truly retro card proposition, a game of macao! Climb to the heights of creativity and good taste by taking out a 52-card deck, a promise of great fun. You do not believe? See for yourself how exciting it can be!

The rules of macao may seem confusing at first, but once you get the hang of what and how, it becomes very obvious. So let's start with what we will need - the mentioned deck of cards, a few people willing to play and some free space (a table, a hard sofa or even a piece of floor, preferably with a rug that will provide players with comfort).

What are the basic rules of macao?

The number of participants is basically any, but it can affect the comfort of the game - therefore, in the case of a really large team, it is worth trying to use a second set of cards. All cards of every suit from deuce to aces are important, so do not remove anything from your deck. Sometimes so-called jokers are also added, which can be a ticket to a better result or smarter moves - as is usually the case, they replace any chosen card.

First, deal 5 cards face down to each player - it is worth arranging them in your hands in such a way that no one but you can see your property. One card is dealt face up in the middle; it is here that everyone will drop their cards in a certain order or sequence. It is also worth determining the order in which to play - usually it's best to choose the starting player and then continue clockwise. In the process, it may turn out that certain circumstances will disturb this unwavering order ...

What is the purpose of the macao game?

What is the goal? As indicated by the rules of macao game , each player strives to get rid of all his cards as soon as possible and thus spectacularly win the game. When we want to win, we have to really exercise our minds smartly and sometimes rely on a little luck. The superstitious would think everything was written on the cards.

So how can you get rid of unwanted elements? Well, according to the turn, you can put cards of the same color or with the same number / figure as the previous face-up card in the middle. So, if the 8 of spades card is in the middle, you can put, for example, 9 or 5 of spades, and if you have more than one of the symbols in different suits (e.g. 5 of hearts, 5 of diamonds, and 5 of clubs), you can get rid of it at the same time. all, thus depleting your resources.

What are Macao Function Cards and Action Cards?

In addition to the usual cards, i.e. those in the 5-10 range, there are also so-called function cards or action cards, and the rules of the game of macao provide for quite a lot of them. Thus, in turn 2 means that the next player has to draw two additional cards from the bank (the rest of the deck left aside), 3 analogically means the need to collect 3, and 4 inhibiting the movement of the next player for one turn.

Above 10, we have a jack which allows each player to request a specific figure in the next turn (e.g. 5 or 6, because action cards cannot be requested), a queen with the rule "a queen for everything, all for a queen" ( apart from the functional cards) and the king, who orders the next person to draw 5 cards in the color of hearts, and in the color of spades - forces the previous person in the queue to draw the same number. Aces have the power to change color - if you play an ace of hearts to 5 of hearts and ask for a spade, the next person must either play the card of the desired suit or take a penalty copy.

When one of the players finishes the game, the rest of the players continue, taking the next places on the podium (and also outside of it if a larger brigade has assembled). The classic macao rules do not include scoring, but there are also versions where such a theme appears - why not get to know them next?
